What is Night Doctor?

A Western Australian company, providing home visits after hours.

Night Doctor reviews:

  • Acutely unwell patients that need assessment before their GP is next available
  • Patients that are unable to get to their GP as they are too unwell (e.g. patients with lots of vomiting) or have barriers to accessing their GP (e.g. mobility issues)
  • Residential care home patients
  • Disability care home patients

 

What hours does Night Doctor operate?

Can the Night Doctor do visits outside of these hours ?

Night doctors provide home visits during the Medicare after hours period which is defined as:

  • From 6pm to 8am Monday to Friday
  • From 12pm (midday) Saturday through to 8am Monday
  • All day on Public Holidays (bookings taken anytime)

Due to Medicare billing restrictions they are unable to provide home visits outside of the defined after hours period. In normal hours, patients are to visit their regular GP.

Is night Doctor a telehealth or in person service?

They offer both, primary a in person service.

Is this service bulk billed?

Night Doctor is a Private billing service only. All patients are billed privately.

Are there any out of pocket fees?

Yes, range of fee’s are on their website – https://nightdr.com.au/fees

Below are general fee’s for Medicare card holder with no concession

Do they accept Health Care cards or Pension cards?

Yes however the service isn’t bulk billed. Their out of pocket fee is less than a non-card holder.

How do patients book a visit?

They are to call the Night Doctor from 6pm who will take their personal details and ask further about their medical problem(s).

Will the clinic receive a report after the visit?

Yes, a summary of the home visit is sent directly to the patient’s regular GP or clinic via secure messaging.

Is the Night Doctor affiliated with our clinic?

Yes,  the clinic has an agreement with Night Doctor to provide after-hours care on our behalf.

 

What conditions does the Night Doctor usually treat?

  • Gastroenteritis
  • Urinary Tract infections
  • Respiratory infections
  • Unwell child assessments, children with fevers
  • Body aches & pains, neck pain and muscle strains
  • Ear infections
  • Skin infections
  • Falls, minor injuries
  • Abdominal pain
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Acute worsening of chronic conditions
  • Vertigo

 

Can they come to aged care or nursing homes?

Yes.

Do they offer translation services?

Yes, patients are to advise Night Doctor when booking, the cost of translation is $35 per 15minutes.

Can the Night Doctor prescribe medications?

Yes, this will be forward to a pharmacy of the patients choosing. Doctors do carry a large selection of medications to help patients get their treatment started so patients don’t need to worry about any late night pharmacy trips.

Can Night Doctor issued medical certificates?

Yes, this will be emailed to the patient at the end of the consultation.
